ScreenShade
Your eyes will thank you.

Screen what huh?
ScreenShade is a tool for further dimming a screen (or screens) past the capabilities of the OS X brightness display settings. This utility is especially useful for people who find themselves using their computer in a low-lighting situation. Even on its lowest native brightness setting, my MacBook Pro's screen is still extremely bright when used in a dark room - ScreenShade to the rescue!

Is it free?
Yup. Technically we like to think of ScreenShade as donationware, but it differs from regular donationware in that it will never ever nag you to donate. We figure that if you like ScreenShade enough to want to donate, we can make it easy to do... instead of nagging the crap out of every user that opens the app.

Some tips:
ScreenShade can be fully controlled via its main menubar item, but there are a couple system-wide hotkeys that have been added for convenience.
Note, the hotkeys below are currently setup to work on a US keyboard mapping.
  • option-plus: make your screen brighter (decreases the ScreenShade effect)
  • option-minus: make your screen darker (increases the ScreenShade effect)
  • command-option-f12: quit ScreenShade
